Nichée sur la côte nord-ouest de l'Afrique, Melilla est une ville autonome espagnole dynamique, limitrophe du Maroc. Étant l'une des deux seules villes espagnoles habitées en permanence en Afrique continentale, avec Ceuta toute proche, elle occupe une place unique dans l'histoire. Autrefois rattachée à la province de Malaga, Melilla a obtenu son statut d'autonomie le 14 mars 1995, marquant ainsi un nouveau chapitre de son riche héritage. Cette pièce remarquable commémore le 500e anniversaire de la conquête de Melilla par l'Espagne en 1497.
